Imelda the Tycoon?

Saturday night at dinner (for the purposes of the move I have dispensed with actually cooking...) Imelda asked Fun Daddy if she could work in his office.... Not wanting to deal with a kid who got bored mid-morning and tormented him for the remainder of the day he told her that didn't handle the hiring in the office. If Imelda was interested in a position, he told her, she would have to follow the standard procedure of submitting a resume to the office manager, Miss Perna. Imelda wasn't really sure what a resume was and asked a couple of questions that we answered. And that, we assumed, was that.

Except on Sunday morning, while Fun Daddy was finishing some work on the computer downstairs and I was trying to watch Meet the Depressed (journalists just seem defeated to me these days) if I could help her with her resume.

Okkkk... clearly she has not given up this idea.

Imelda: Should it be written out by hand?

Me: No typed.

Imelda: What kind of stuff should be in it?

Me: What kind of work you have done and other information about you

Imelda: How do I do that?

Me: Oh hang on...

At this point, I pulled up a resume template in Word and put her back to work with the direction to fill in the blanks... She had a couple of questions along the way, which I helped her with.. and eventually in about a 1/2 she had a genuine resume. How about that?

Objectives: I want to learn about the business world and I want to do a good job.

Awards and Special Skills: I go an attendance (sic) award in the 4th grade for band. I also went to French school for five years. I can also play the guitar and the saxophone.

Is that just the cutest thing you have ever seen?

You know what is cuter? She got an interview and had her references checked and started work on Tuesday. Taking lunch orders, cleaning white boards, copying, filing and other miscellaneous tasks.

And?

She loved it! She was exhausted by the end of the day but so excited. She told us about how she told her boss about her interest in fashion (as if poor Miss Perna didn't know that already) and was excited because Miss Perna will introduce her to a former employer who works in the Merchandise Mart... the Chicago fashion Mecca... My Imelda is NETWORKING! She is going to be a tycoon by 12 if she keeps this up!

And?

She is doing a good job... always finishes up her tasks and asks for another. Fun Daddy has barely seen her the last couple of days, although he did get a couple of pix of her in her first business meeting... where she made suggestions that were considered for at least a moment...

Now if I could just get her this motivated at home... and have some of it rub off on the Angel!
