Whole Foods
There is a new store in town (or the neighborhood anyway). Yes, we now have a Whole Foods. and a Starbucks... we have... ARRIVED.
The love part is simple. High quality, fresh foods. Items that I can't get at the local Jewel. For a foodie mom, this is paradise.
The hate problem?
There are other people in the store. Now the employees? They are great. Cheerful, knowledgeable, helpful.... proud of their new store and seemingly happy to be there. I know. That seems odd. But I kind of like it. It is the other customers that I don't like.
Why you ask?
Well they are rude for the most part. In that, "You will wait until I am finished, you lesser human being" kind of way. I am back to being that invisible woman again. Judge to be less important by those around me. blech.
I felt this most intensely while waiting at the fish counter. There were two women along with their baby in the cart. They were in intense conversation with the girl behind the counter (I really don't think you would call her the fishmonger..) about the relative merits or assorted fishing methods. So I wait. I know what I need. I just have to be patient. Then they switch to a discussion different types of scallops. "Is there a difference between sea scallops and bay scallops other than their size?"
That is when my eyes began to roll. This was never going to end. These women were just being ignorant. I should have realized this when I saw they were ignoring their little girl... and had opened a not yet purchased bag of cookies for her to snack on. (I am sure they were sucrose free, whole grain and vegan... but still -- NOT YOURS YET!!!!)
At this point, the real fish monger approached and saw my eyes roll. I feel confident calling him that as he was wearing water proof overalls and heavy gloves that he put plastic gloves over to select for me the yellow fin tuna that I needed for my Salade niçoise that I prepared last night.
While he is wrapping up my fish, I notice that my scallopy friends have finally made their choice. Four sea scallops. FOUR. THAT IS AN APPETIZER FOR ONE! 25 minutes they took of that girl's time to buy four sea scallops.. GRRR.
As if this is not bad enough, I am bumped, cut off and otherwise tortured until I blissfully get out of the store. I am an idiot. I will be back, but maybe I can figure out when the self-absorbed and entitled crowd is not there.

Where the hell is the Whole Foods? I didn't see that going up?!
Way cool! Whole Foods also has (or used to have) a really great line of bath products including a relaxing bath salts product that was DIVINE!
