I don't know we pretend that there is a sport called "Women's" Gymnastics since most of the participants are really just girls.

The Chinese team, in particular seems very young. I swear some of those girls still haven't lost their baby teeth.

On the other hand, Germany (why do I still want to call them West Germany?) has an actual woman on their team, Oksana Chusovitina is 33 years old and will be competing for an individual medal in the vault.

Why does she keep punishing her body? To help save her son who was diagnosed with leukemia and couldn't get the treatment that he needed in their home of Uzbekistan.

Now there is a woman!

What is the deal with the new swim suits? I want the old Speedos back... although I guess I could stand the suits if we got these kinds of views.

The LZR suits are only available for Olympians right now but Speedo is taking orders for them. But the will cost $550!

On a more positive note, I found out that Speedo makes a bathing suit for me to wear! So when I start swimming at the YMCA after the girls go back to school I won't have to wear something that ties around my neck! YEAH!

Olympic thoughts

In case I haven't mentioned it before, but I love the Olympics.

I have been watching for as long as I can remember. In truth, the first one I can remember watching was 1972. My cousin Lisa was over, my sister had been sent to bed because she was too little and Lisa and I stayed up with the grownups eating popcorn and watching the opening ceremonies.

I have been hooked ever since.

So I have been obsessively watching...

As a result, I will mention my Olympic thoughts on occasion...

You may disregard at will... they are just thoughts that enter my quirky little brain.

More Reasons to Love Mayor Daley

Chicago was celebrating today. Why? Because we are closer to being able to host the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Of course, the news of the day got in the way...

So before he started his prepared remarks... The Mayor made the following statement:

"Today before we begin the ceremonies, I'd like to have a moment of silence.

Unfortunately in this country, at Virginia Tech, there were over 21 students gunned down this morning.

And you know my position about gun violence and too many guns in our society. And I don't care what people think, to the left or to the right, there are too many guns in our society. Too many children have lost their lives in this great country.

"I would like to have a moment of silence for those students who lost their lives and their families. Amen."

It just reminds me why I love Chicago and Mayor Daley...
